The role
As Head of Environmental Protection and Occupational Health you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. In this new leadership role, you'll supoort the SHEP Director in establishing governance for environmental and health standards. Your role will be central to driving a consistent, sector-wide approach to safety, health, and environmental protection across international waterfront operations, with a strong commitment to achieving zero harm to people and the environment. The role is embedded within the Safety, Health, Environment (SHEP) team and is instrumental in shaping our Marine Sector’s strategic direction in these critical areas.
Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for designing and assuring Environmental and Health Governance across the Marine Sector, while also managing the Occupational Health contract delivered by a third-party provider. You’ll ensure the provision of accurate Occupational Health information to support any claims, and maintain oversight of the contract’s delivery by attending regular contract management meetings and ensuring service standards are met.
- Reducing, reporting and demonstrating with the People team a 3% reduction in long term sick across the Marine sector.
- Pro-actively interacting with environmental regulators, including but not limited to SEPA, EA and Local Authorities
- Working with Babcock Group wide Environmental and Health leads to standardise Babcock governance
- Developing and owning adequate risk/aspect registers at a Marine Sector level for Health and Environment
- Identifying key Environmental and Health trends, with clear actions to mitigate risk or remove hazard, which will include developing any potential business cases.
- Ensuring emergency arrangements are adequate and in place for environmental issues across the sector
This is a full-time position (36 hours per week) based in Rosyth, Scotland, with travel / work required at both Rosyth and Devonport Royal Dockyard in Devon as required.
Essential experience of the Head of Environmental Protection and Occupational Health
- Experience of senior environmental protection management within heavy manufacturing, waste management or defence, ideally with waterfront locations
- A full understanding of ISO14001 and ideally working knowledge of ISO45001
- An ability to translate international and UK Law into practical standards for delivery across the globe.
- Experience of managing commercial arrangements with suppliers
- Exposure to Occupational Health Management
Qualifications for the Essential experience of the Head of Environmental Protection and Occupational Health
- Chartered Environmentalist
- Full Member of IEMA or environmental body
- Level 6 Qualification in Environmental/Sustainability
- Level 3 qualification in Occupational Health and Safety
- Level 6 Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety
