About the Company
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Head of Finance to support a finance function for a 1-year fixed term contract with a possibility of temp to perm. This role will play a critical part in ensuring the financial health of the organisation, with a strong emphasis on compliance with UK GAAP and statutory reporting. You will oversee day-to-day financial operations, manage a small finance team, ensure robust financial controls, and provide strategic insights to senior leadership. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute finance leader with deep technical knowledge to make an immediate impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the finance function, ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of monthly management accounts and statutory financial statements in accordance with UK GAAP.
- Own the year-end process, including liaison with external auditors and managing audit deliverables.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, cash flow forecasts, and variance analysis.
- Manage budgeting and forecasting processes, working closely with department heads to align financial planning with operational goals.
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, tax filings (including VAT and Corporation Tax), and internal policies.
- Drive improvements in financial processes, systems, and reporting to enhance efficiency and control.
- Supervise and support a small finance team, providing leadership, mentoring, and day-to-day oversight.
- Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making at executive level.
- Act as the key point of contact for auditors, banks, tax advisors, and other external stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
- Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role, ideally within the UK.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, particularly with UK GAAP and FRS 102.
- Experience in preparing statutory accounts and managing external audits.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
- Strong Excel and financial systems skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
