Birmingham City Council is seeking a strategic and experienced professional to lead its Fleet, Plant & Assets service within the Street Scene Division. This is a pivotal role responsible for shaping and delivering a sustainable fleet strategy that supports the Council’s operational and environmental goals.
What You’ll Do...
- Provide Strategic Leadership for the Fleet & Transport dept
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fleet strategy covering capital acquisition, asset management, and maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with traffic regulations and maintain the Council’s operator’s license.
- Lead strategic fleet procurement aligned with long-term sustainability goals.
- Manage capital budgets for fleet replacement and explore carbon reduction and sustainable fuel solutions.
- Establish performance metrics to evaluate procurement effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
- Oversee fleet maintenance schedules and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and suppliers.
- Monitor and manage fleet-related budgets, ensuring cost-effective and efficient operations.
- Budget Holder for fleet department
- Work closely with wider BCC fleet
What You’ll Need...
- Exceptional Communication skills at all levels of a complex organisation
- Experience of working in Dynamic organisations
- Degree or professional certification in fleet management, logistics, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in fleet and asset operations, including procurement and compliance.
- Proven track record in budget management and strategic planning.
- Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage complex projects and navigate regulatory frameworks.
- Commitment to sustainability and innovation in fleet management.
