The London Borough of Bexley is seeking an exceptional and visionary leader to take on the role of Head of Housing, a pivotal position within our senior leadership team.

At a time when many local authorities are facing mounting pressures and escalating costs, Bexley’s Housing service is delivering sector-leading results. The service is currently projected to achieve a £500,000 underspend this year, an exceptional outcome made possible by a strategic and data-driven approach. Since 2022, the use of emergency accommodation has been reduced by 68%, homelessness cases prevented or relieved have increased by over 157%, and the Housing Register has been reduced by more than 75%. These achievements are virtually unparalleled in the current housing landscape and reflect a service that is not only resilient but thriving. The Head of Housing will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of housing services across the borough, ensuring residents receive high-quality, responsive, and sustainable support.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Council’s principal advisor on housing matters, working closely with elected members, senior officers, and external partners.
- Lead a diverse portfolio including homelessness prevention, housing allocations, temporary accommodation, private sector leasing, and affordable housing development.
- Drive transformation and embed digital innovation to enhance service delivery.
- Build strong relationships with registered providers and housing associations, clearly articulating Bexley’s priorities and expectations.
- Manage significant budgets and lead multi-disciplinary teams with a focus on service excellence and financial sustainability.
