We’re looking for an inspiring, experienced Head of HR to lead our HR function and help shape a high-performing, future ready organisation. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the business – providing practical support, trusted advice, and steady leadership to both the HR team and across
InterGen. You’ll bring a strong generalist background, a collaborative mindset, and a focus on delivering meaningful outcomes. You’ll lead a hands-on HR team, aligning operations, talent, reward, and organisational development with business goals in a fair, future-focused way.
As we work towards our vision of becoming a leading, innovative provider of reliable and flexible power across the UK – supporting the
Clean Power 2030 Action Plan – our people strategies will be central to our success.
The Team
Our HR team is vital part of
InterGen and how we operate. We are a supportive, high performing team, driven by a shared goal: to foster a culture that prepares our employees for long term success. We do this by implementing the right strategies, tools, and processes to ensure our people continue to consistently add value and feel appreciated every day. We collaborate closely, challenge each other constructively, and take pride in the impact we make across
InterGen.
You will work closely with the Managing Director and functional leaders to shape and embed people strategies that align the goals of
Sev.en Global Investments and
InterGen ensuring that the business evolves with skilled, motivated, high-performing teams. But you won’t stop there – this role offers the opportunity to build relationships across all functional areas and levels of the organisation, giving you a broad platform to influence, connect, and drive meaningful change.
Our Edinburgh office is a friendly and exciting environment enhanced with regular company-funded social events and seasonal gatherings, or time spent raising funds for our chosen charities.
What You’ll Be Doing
HR Leadership
In this role, you will lead the development and implementation of HR strategies to align with
InterGen’s vision and business goals, acting as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and work in partnership on all people-related matters. You’ll drive organisational change and transformation, while mentoring and empowering the HR team to collaborate and grow professionally. You’ll manage budgets and resources, ensuring the HR function continues to operate with both impact and efficiency.
HR Operations & Compliance
Part of your key responsibilities will include ensuring our HR operations are robust, compliant, and aligned with both internal policies and external regulations – helping to minimise risk and uphold best practice across the business. Working closely with our HR Business Partner, you’ll be an advocate for our compensation and benefits programs, continuing to ensure they’re market competitive, fair, and fit for purpose. Alongside this, you’ll optimise the management of HR systems, data, and reporting to help us drive accuracy, efficiency, and actionable insights that support strategic decision-making.
Organisation Development
This role involves overseeing initiatives that support talent attraction, onboarding, and retention and working with our Recruitment Lead to ensure we continue building high-performing teams. You’ll have the opportunity to shape development strategies that include talent growth, performance management, succession planning, and leadership growth in partnership with our OD Business Partner. You’ll champion diversity, equity, and inclusion across all levels of the organisation, and help to create clear career pathways for high-potential individuals. Your approach will be guided by evaluation frameworks that measure impact and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
By collaborating with our existing HR team and leveraging technology-driven solutions, you’ll be instrumental in ensuring our people strategies remain agile, inclusive, and aligned with business objectives.
Why you?
As our new Head of HR, you bring a genuine passion for people and a deep commitment to leading and empowering a team of professionals to thrive and reach their full potential. You have spent years navigating the complexities of organisational change, building trust with senior leaders, challenging constructively at all levels, and shaping cultures that bring out the best in teams. You know how to work both autonomously and collaboratively, knowing how to lead under pressure. Ideally, you’ll have experience in a similar role within a fast paced, dynamic environment – maybe even in energy or engineering sectors – where you’ve had to successfully balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery.
You’re not just a policy and process driver – you’re a coach, a challenger, and a collaborator. You know how to read a room, influence at all levels, and turn data into action. You’ve led teams, managed budgets, delivered development and talent strategies – a juggler of multiple projects.
