Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for data, privacy, and performance intelligence?

We’re seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Business Information to lead a multi-functional, high-impact portfolio covering data protection, records management, FOI, evidential property, and operational systems like the Police National Computer and Database.

This is a senior leadership role within our Information Management Services Directorate, reporting to the Director of Information. You’ll oversee a team of 24, manage a £1m budget, and drive the development of an intelligence-led, efficient, and fully compliant force-wide approach to business information strategy.

You’ll be responsible for shaping the way data is governed, accessed, and protected across the Force — playing a key role in public trust, operational insight, and legal compliance.

This is not a back-office support role. It's an influential leadership position working with Chief Officers, the City of London Corporation, and national policing partners to ensure information management is strategic, secure, and future-focused.

What You'll Lead

• Privacy & Compliance: Operational leadership of GDPR, DPA, FOIA, and disclosure functions
• Records & Property: Force-wide delivery of records management and evidential property systems
• Strategic Intelligence: Reporting, KPIs, and performance analytics to inform operational and executive decision-making
• System Optimisation: Centralising business systems and data workflows to improve efficiencies
• Governance & Engagement: Representing the force at local, regional, and national boards including Police Committee and IT Subcommittee
• Budget Oversight: Managing a significant operational budget and team across multiple functions

What You’ll Bring

• A proven record of strategic leadership in complex public sector environments (e.g., police, NHS, local authority)
• Strong operational experience managing data privacy, FOI, information governance, and compliance
• Expertise in performance management, analytics, and delivering service improvement through data
• Ability to influence, challenge, and collaborate at senior leadership level
• Excellent programme/project management capabilities, including risk, change, and people leadership
• Strong working knowledge of legislation: FOIA, GDPR, DPA 2018, PACE, Human Rights, and National Policing standards
• Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing high-performing managers

Desirable Qualifications

• BCS Practitioner or equivalent in Data Protection, FOIA, or Information Security
• Degree or professional qualification in an information, business, or compliance-related subject
• Experience with reporting platforms, analytics tools, or CRM systems
• Background in change management and digital optimisation
