💰 Salary: £70,656 - £79,157 (plus £10,000 market supplement) (SLMG3)

Internal Audit plays a central role in promoting transparency, accountability, and integrity, helping us manage risk, make informed decisions, and deliver excellent value to the people of Nottingham.

🛠️ The Role

As Chief Internal Auditor, you’ll lead and shape the Council’s:

• Internal Audit
• Counter Fraud
• Risk Management
• Insurance services

You will provide trusted strategic assurance and insight to senior leadership and elected members, supporting good governance and high-quality service delivery. This includes ensuring statutory compliance, managing fraud investigations, and embedding a strong risk-aware culture across the organisation.

🔍 What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a dynamic and strategic leader who can:

• Demonstrate experience leading audit, risk, fraud, or insurance functions
• Hold a CCAB-recognised accountancy qualification (or equivalent in risk/insurance)
• Communicate complex information in a clear and engaging way
• Build strong relationships across services and external agencies
• Inspire and develop high-performing teams
• Champion inclusion, transparency, and innovation

🎯 Key Responsibilities

• Deliver the annual audit and counter-fraud plans
• Provide professional assurance to the Audit Committee, Corporate Leadership, and Council
• Lead on governance, financial control, and value-for-money improvements
• Investigate fraud and irregularity, ensuring timely and appropriate responses
• Manage the Council’s insurance and risk frameworks in line with organisational appetite
• Represent Nottingham in partnership and external forums
