What you'll do:

As Head of Heavy Industries Underwriting at Aspen in London, you will play an instrumental role in shaping the future direction of the company's heavy industries portfolio. Your day-to-day responsibilities will see you collaborating closely with senior management to set strategic priorities while overseeing the execution of complex underwriting decisions.

• Develop and implement tactical plans for the heavy industries portfolio segment, ensuring alignment with overall business targets and strategic objectives.
• Conduct comprehensive underwriting analysis on new and existing reinsurance business, evaluating complex risks, exposures, pricing structures, rates, terms, and conditions within delegated authority levels.
• Apply subject matter expertise to manage high-value transactions, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, adherence to corporate guidelines, and maintenance of robust records and systems.
• Interpret organisational goals and regulatory requirements; monitor functional activity to optimise compliance, effectiveness, risk management, and delivery of policy and procedures.
• Act as a senior technical expert by providing advice and guidance to colleagues across the function, promoting improved understanding of underwriting standards and functional needs.
• Build strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders-including brokers and clients-to ensure service delivery meets or exceeds expectations.
• Represent Aspen in project teams and cross-functional initiatives by providing technical input that ensures solutions are aligned with underwriting needs.
• Oversee the review and analysis of portfolio performance to identify trends, influence progress towards business objectives, and support credit control in payment collection.
• Champion continuous learning by identifying development activities for yourself and your team members to maintain leading-edge technical knowledge.
• Manage all aspects of people development within your team-resource planning, performance management, mentoring-ensuring clear accountabilities and fostering a culture of accountability.

• Demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities effectively while meeting deadlines through efficient planning techniques.
• Exceptional analytical skills supported by high levels of numeracy and literacy; able to use data-driven insights for informed judgement calls.
