Our client has a new opportunity for a Head of Lighting to join their Audio Visual team. The role involves supporting the Senior AV & IT Logistics Manager and leading on all aspects of lighting within the venue, including operational patching, maintenance, and technical delivery.
As Head of Lighting, you will be part of a professional team providing technical presentation services to events primarily within the venue and occasionally at external locations. You will also be responsible for mentoring and supporting other AV Technicians in lighting matters, ensuring best practice is maintained across the team.
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a confident, professional, and approachable manner at all times when working with clients, venue staff, colleagues, and production companies, ensuring the highest standards of service are delivered.
The AV Department
The AV Department is part of the Operations team, which prides itself on delivering exemplary levels of customer service to enhance the visitor experience.
The department delivers Audio Visual services for the venue and is a key part of its success, incorporating many specialists in the AV industry. They work closely with event managers to organise and operate most events, providing first-class AV technology to clients.
Key Tasks
- Rigging and de-rigging of audio, lighting, video/data, sets, and display equipment in accordance with health and safety regulations and procedures.
- Take overall responsibility for lighting links across the building, including operational patching and maintenance.
- Operate AV and lighting equipment during events to the highest professional standards.
- Train, mentor, and support other AV Technicians in lighting matters.
- Support the Senior AV & IT Logistics Manager with technical planning and problem solving.
- Assist with equipment storage, repairs, and asset management.
- Undertake training (both internal and external) in all relevant technical subjects.
- Ensure health and safety standards are adhered to at all times.
- Carry out any other duties as required, including evening and weekend work when necessary.
Person Specification
Experience
- Strong technical knowledge and experience in professional lighting systems for live events.
- Experience in corporate AV, theatre, or live production environments.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work under pressure with clients and colleagues.
- Ability to train, mentor, and support junior technicians.
- Ability to identify risks and make confident, dynamic decisions to protect both the venue and the client.
Technical Skills And Qualifications
- Qualification in Audio Visual, Lighting, or equivalent industry experience.
- IOSH trained, or equivalent experience in working at height and manual handling.
- Rigging and slinging training desirable.
