Head of New Business

Location: London (Hybrid). This role is expected to be travelling to both existing and prospective client sites regularly with one day per week in the office in southwest London.

Salary: £75,000 to £80,000 per annum.

Contract type: Full-time, permanent


A leading not-for-profit healthcare provider is seeking a Head of New Business to lead on sales, marketing, and product development activities across its group. This is a key leadership role, reporting directly to the CEO, and offers the opportunity to shape the organisation’s growth strategy across both public sector (NHS) and private sector markets.


The Role

As Head of New Business, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of sales and marketing strategies that support the organisation’s ambitious growth objectives. You’ll manage all new business activity across NHS-facing services and support private sector business development when required.


This includes managing relationships with NHS and other healthcare commissioners, developing service propositions, overseeing promotional activity and tender submissions, and working alongside senior colleagues to shape long-term strategic opportunities.

You will also support the renewal of existing contracts and lead on identifying and securing new business opportunities across new and existing territories.


The Need

  • Delivering £1m+ in revenue annually. You will be expected to make strategic commercial judgments where appropriate, balancing revenue, risk, and margin.
  • Driving both new and renewal business, supporting existing relationships while proactively identifying and securing new opportunities.
  • Owning the sales pipeline, managing external communications, and identifying areas of opportunity based on market insight and service alignment.
  • Identifying opportunities in new geographies or sectors (e.g., mental health, children’s services, physiotherapy)
  • Building partnerships with other providers - particularly where larger organisations approach the company to collaborate
  • Leading tender responses
  • Managing customer relationships both for current and prospective clients, ensuring service and commercial outcomes are met.


Who We're Looking For

This role calls for a highly motivated, commercially minded leader who is equally comfortable delivering tactical wins and shaping long-term strategy.


You will have:

  • A strong track record of winning contracts and delivering measurable commercial outcomes (healthcare experience is strongly preferred)
  • Experience owning revenue targets and leading full-cycle business development
  • Excellent relationship-building skills across multiple stakeholder groups
  • The ability to create compelling, evidence-based business cases and tender responses
  • A strategic mindset with the confidence to shape product and market direction
  • A proactive, people-oriented approach with strong interpersonal skills


Desirable:

  • Experience within healthcare (particularly NHS-facing roles) is advantageous, but not essential if you can demonstrate deep commercial capability and a people-first mindset
  • Experience working in or with the public sector, not-for-profit providers, or integrated care systems
  • Familiarity with healthcare commissioning, contract frameworks, or direct award structures
