This post is a Secondment for 3 months to meet the needs of the service.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Interim Head of Nursing (Band 8c) for Medicine, Maelor Hospital, Wrexham.

The secondment period is up to 1st December 2025 in the first instance, but may be extended in line with service need.

The successful senior nurse will oversee the nursing provision across the Medical Directorate; working jointly with other senior nurses, site flow team, medical, operational colleagues.

This secondment is a great opportunity for a senior nurse with evidence of working in challenging and diverse clinical environments, where clear, focused and compassionate leadership is required, along with robust governance and patient safety procedures.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for the overall leadership, management and strategic development of nursing and clinical services/strategy within area of responsibility, reporting directly to ADNS.
  • Responsible and accountable for all nursing and clinical staff within the Directorate.
  • Responsible for budget and physical resources within area of responsibility.
  • Accountable for direct service delivery; liaises with external agencies at a strategic level across the health community. Sustains effective partnership working to support the implementation of joint strategies with external organisations. as appropriate eg: Local Authority; Area Teams; CHC; Police; Ambulance; Trust.
  • Lead for complaints as delegated by ADNS ensuring robust mechanisms are in place for the investigation, monitoring and corrective action.
  • Represents Site/Health Board on All Wales development either specific to nursing/clinical services or to speciality Directorate aligned to site.
  • Deputises for ADNS and DGM.
  • Part of the hospital ‘bronze on call rota’ out of office hour.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
