Head of Strategic Content and Communications - Transformation

This role sits within the wider Strategic Communications and Campaigns team - the engine room of HMRC Communications. Together, we set the direction for the function by establishing our communications strategy and annual plans, prioritising activities that deliver directorate and departmental goals, generating insight and analysing data to steer decisions, and delivering award-winning behaviour change campaigns with the support of our in-house brand and creative experts.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team in a leadership role, shaping HMRC's transformation narrative and driving the communications delivery of the Transformation Roadmap. You'll lead a strategic campaign that tells HMRC's transformation story in a clear, transparent and compelling way, with the goal of influencing perceptions among key audiences.

The successful candidate will be a proactive self-starter with exceptional drafting and editorial skills, strong senior stakeholder management experience, and a keen understanding of the bigger picture. You'll have the ability to distil complex information into clear, compelling messages and bring proven expertise in communications planning and delivery.

Key Responsibilities Include

Producing and maintaining a suite of corporate products such as a core slide deck and "About Us" sections on gov.uk and internal channels, as well as HMRC's corporate style guide.

Acting in a trusted adviser capacity, as a source of information relating to HMRC's narrative both for internal and external audiences.

Leading a high-performing team, including one Senior Officer (SO) - ensuring they have clear objectives and areas of responsibility that are aligned with the team's overall aims and wider communications strategies and plans.

As Head of Strategic Content and Communications for the transformation story, you will have regular exposure to the Communications Senior Leadership Team, Finance directors, Permanent Secretaries, Executive Committee, Ministerial team and other senior leaders across the department.

Person specification

• Strategic thinking: the ability to see the bigger picture and think strategically, working across multiple teams and stakeholders to understand the existing landscape and transformation plans to craft a compelling departmental story and communications campaign.
• Communication and credibility: excellent communication and influencing skills with the credibility and confidence to make narrative or communications recommendations to non-communicators.
