What will you be doing?
The Head of workshop and logistics leads the operational delivery of all workshop output at Illusion. As a department head, they are responsible for the smooth coordination of personnel, logistics, compliance, and resources across the production schedule. They act as the main point of contact for all workshop-based planning and ensure that projects are delivered to a high standard, safely, on time, and within budget.
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinate with other Heads of Department (Carpentry, Scenic, Metalwork) and Project Managers to align timelines and space requirements, organising space for future and present job requirements.
- Provide strategic planning for workshop operations, including resourcing, scheduling, and labouring staffing.
- Manage the workshop calendar, material flow, and van/truck logistics including long term storage needs and management.
- Lead and support direct reports (Workshop Lead, Facilities & Safety Coordinator, CNC Operator, Van Driver)
- Responsible for the safe and efficient loading and unloading of vans and trucks. Ensure all items are accounted for according to the load list, verifying accuracy before departure. Take care to load items securely and sensibly to prevent damage during transit, following all safety and handling procedures.
- Maintain high standards of output and finish through final quality control and pre-fit signoffs
- Plan and oversee pre-fits and layout of builds in coordination with Workshop Lead
- Recruit and onboard freelance and full-time workshop crew with support from HR
- Ensure collaboration across departments and anticipate bottlenecks in workflow
- Escalate risks or capacity shortfalls to the Production Director in a timely manner
- Stock hire items (steel deck, truss etc) management
- Ordering and maintaining appropriate levels of stock consumables using stock sheet
- Ordering, coordinating maintaining appropriate levels of stock materials/bulk orders
- Working closely with the safety coordinator to achieve H&S requirements for the workshop
- Ensure workshop H&S practices are adhered to.
- Ensure all workshop areas are clear and tidy.
- Manage movements of internal van movements and space in yard for unloading and loading.
Standard working hours: 8.00am-5.00pm Monday-Friday
