Health and Justice Navigator – Women’s pathway

Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Cheshire Liaison & Diversion Team for an individual to work on a 2 year pilot with Women through the Justice system.

The successful candidate will sit within the established Outreach team and provide specialist, Trauma informed assessments/intervention to Women who are navigating the criminal justice system.

Liaison & Diversion (L&D) services identify people who have substance misuse, mental health, learning disability or other vulnerabilities when they first come onto contact with the criminal justice system. We look to identify unmet need and vulnerabilities that often lead to or exacerbate offending behaviour, offer onward referral and signposting as appropriate. We liaise across agencies to support onward planning and intervention to address identified needs and where appropriate support the diversion of individuals away from the criminal justice process into a more appropriate setting.

We work in Police Custody Suites, Courts and Community throughout Cheshire and offer assessments to individuals within the Criminal Justice system including Voluntary Attendees. We help to inform decision makers with relevant and timely information to support sentencing and disposal outcomes.

This is an 'all age' service and so you will be required to work with people from the age of 10 years upwards.

The post holder will be expected to travel across the MPFT footprint

Provide compassion to vulnerable Women at points of acute vulnerability in the criminal justice process.

To support criminal justice agencies to better identify vulnerabilities in their respective environments.

Provide criminal justice agencies with advice and information regarding pathways to access further support.

To secure referrals into mainstream health and social care services and other relevant interventions and support services from a range of statutory and voluntary providers.

Identify levels of risk and escalate where appropriate.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria

• NVQ Level 3 Health & Social Care (or willingness to work towards) or equivalent experience.

• Training in Supporting / Mentoring / coaching.

• The post holder will require additional vetting by partner agencies; this includes Police Vetting and / or Prison Clearance.
• Experience of working with a range of vulnerabilities which may include mental health, physical health, learning disabilities, abuse, addiction and social issues.

Experience of working with a range of statutory, non-statutory agencies.

Desirable criteria

• Experience and/or sound knowledge of the Criminal Justice System.
• Experience of working in a community based setting.
• Experience of implementing personalised care plans or rehabilitation plans.
