Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Health Care Assistant to join our busy Ophthalmology Outpatients Department. You will support nursing and clinical staff in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to individuals attending ophthalmology clinics.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a specialist outpatient setting and develop ophthalmic clinical skills within a supportive team.
This role requires the staff member to perform some specialist testing of patients who visit the unit, this will be an integral part of this role within this very busy fast paced unit, which is highly active.
You will also provide clinical support as required to help always ensure the efficient and effective running of the Department, following current standards and policies relevant to the area.
37.5 hours per week worked over a 7 day contract.
Main duties of the job
Assist qualified nursing staff in the delivery of care to patients attending ophthalmology clinics
Support patients before, during, and after consultations and procedures
Undertake basic clinical tasks following appropriate training and competency assessment (e.g. visual acuity, blood pressure, blood glucose monitoring etc)
Prepare clinic rooms and equipment, ensuring a clean and safe environment
Assist with patient flow and clerical duties within the outpatient department
Maintain patient dignity, confidentiality, and safety at all times
Work collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team
Work as part of a team within a very busy fast paced unit, delivering specialist testing to enable doctors to be able to diagnose and treat many of the ophthalmic conditions in which we support our patients.
To be able to quickly learn skills and follow instructions for their important job role to enable the team to complete their part of the journey that patients follow when attending for ophthalmic issues.
Ability to attend many learning events to increase knowledge and skills to and adopt them into the work area.
