Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) Lead for our Water Services Major Projects Business Unit. The Water Services team consults, delivers and manages projects in the Water Utilities sector. The HSW Lead will be a suitably competent person to provide legally compliant advice, guidance, and support to our project within our Major Projects team under our Major Projects Commercial Director in collaboration with our Health and Safety team from the wider Water Services team. This will include inspiring, motivating, and guiding a complex, multi-organisational project team to deliver an industry-leading HSW culture and level of performance. Successful applicants will be able to work flexibly from one of our offices. The ability to travel to Client and Binnies offices is essential.
The Major Projects business unit already contains exciting projects and we are looking for the candidate to take on the HSW Lead role within one of our long term projects.
This role would suit someone with Health, Safety & Wellbeing experience within professional services in large Water Utilities capital projects or similar field.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategy: Work at a strategic level, be client-facing, and expound the required HSW behaviours. Motivate and inspire a diverse group of people and workstreams and build and manage a team of reports.
- HSW Risk Management: Demonstrate experience and competence in strategic HSW risk management development and delivery in complex, multi-organisational projects at an SLT leadership level.
- Safety Culture Development: Develop and implement effective safety culture, behavioural safety, stress, fatigue management, and other wellbeing and human factors approaches.
- Training & Development: Provide HSW training development and delivery. Experience in Railway and Highways operating areas, event management, protestor management, and site and personal security is useful.
- Collaboration & Communication: Communicate and interact well with others, representing the contractual client and external authorities. Awareness of ISO 44001 standard for collaboration requirements is useful.
- Project Delivery: Inspire and motivate members in HSW, lead the HSW team, and ensure exemplary HSW performance. Review and assess the scope of deliverable works and changes to ensure appropriate HSW support requirements are in place.
- Incident Management: Lead on the investigation of significant incidents, ensuring HSW incident and ill health reports, notifications, and root cause analysis are conducted.
- Meetings & Reporting: Lead/support monthly project-specific HSW meetings, support the CDM cadence of safe by design and other required meetings, and oversee the development and submission of monthly HSW data, reporting, and KPI requirements.

The role would be suitable for an individual with a proven track record in the water industry or similar. You should possess and be able to demonstrate some or all the following skills and knowledge:
- Demonstrable experience in strategic HSW risk management development and delivery in complex, multi contractor projects at an SLT leadership level
- Competence in CDM management and wider occupational HSW from either Client or Principal Contractor/ Contractor or Designer/ Principal Designer perspective.
- Experience in developing and implementing safety culture, behavioural safety programs and fatigue management and other wellbeing approaches
- Trained trainer with competence in HSW training development and delivery.
- Incident Investigation and root cause analysis.
- HSW (including CDM) performance monitoring, assurance and reporting.
- Experience in any of the following industries/work environments would be useful; Railway, Highways, utilities and event management and personal security.
