Job Description
This is a one year contract, term time only, which will be reviewed annually. Preferred start date is January 2026 but this can be flexible for the right candidate.
The successful candidate will provide daily 1:1 support for a current year 7 female student with ongoing education and health care needs in line with her Education Health Care Plan. They will assist with duties in the Medical Centre during any times of student absence under the direction of the Lead Nurse.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor student and report to a designated person (including liaising with parents).
- Keep records as required by the school.
- Have familiarity with relevant EHCP and plans specific to the child.
- Support student’s access academically in lessons in line with the EHCP and Learning Development policy.
- Carry out reasonable daily personal care duties and administer first aid if required.
- If necessary, assist student with physiotherapy plan.
- Assist with the movement of the student in and around school – this may require the use of a manual wheelchair and other mobility aids if/when required depending on the student's needs (including use of stairs).
- Supervise student over break and lunch periods.
- Act in accordance with school policies and procedures and relevant legislation, particularly in relation to child protection and behaviour management.
- Working collaboratively with multiple departments of the school.
Required
At times, when your usual duties are not required, you may be asked to support the Medical or Learning Development teams. This may include:
- Assist the Lead Nurse with health care duties as required across the school sites.
- Deliver small group, or 1:1 session supporting with literacy, numeracy or wider skills.
- Provide in-class support for students at direction of SENCO.
- Support SEND students during assessments and exams.
Essential Criteria
- Experience working with and supporting young people with complex conditions.
- Knowledge and experience of providing first aid (or a willingness to complete a first aid qualification).
- Awareness and understanding of safeguarding.
- Flexibility to deal with the changing needs of the student and the ability to adapt one’s approach to suit the individual’s health needs.
- Be physically fit and able to undertake all the requirements of the post and use equipment essential for the role.
- Willingness to accompany on school trips (including overnight) by prior arrangement.
- Good IT skills.
- Ability to cope calmly and effectively.
- Resilient and adaptable to change.
Desired Criteria
- Relevant medical experience/ qualification.
- Experience working in an educational / healthcare setting.
- Current First Aid qualification.
