As an
HGV Recovery Driver based in
Dartford, Kent, you’ll be on the front line of keeping traffic moving, responding to breakdowns, collisions, and emergency situations with skill and professionalism. You'll be responsible for the safe recovery, towing, and transport of large vehicles, helping to minimise disruption and ensure road safety.
Working with Balfour Beatty Highways, you'll play a key role in specialist recovery operations across the M25 network. This is a high-impact role where your expertise will make a real difference.

What you'll be doing
As an HGV Recovery Driver, you’ll play a key role in keeping one of the UK’s most vital
transport networks running smoothly. Your work will directly support the safety and reliability of the M25, making a real impact every single day.
You’ll Be
- Responding to road-related incidents, hazards and breakdowns, providing recovery support and arranging specialist advice where needed.
- Attending incidents and working safely and efficiently to clear affected areas, following CPS policies and risk assessments.
- Carrying out a variety of essential maintenance tasks including:
- Debris and safety inspections
- Carriageway repairs and graffiti removal
- Soft estate maintenance (e.g. grass cutting)
- Litter picking, cleansing, and sign maintenance
- Leading or assisting with the recovery of heavy and light vehicles in line with safety procedures.
- Using mobile devices to record information accurately, supporting clear communication and compliance.
- Completing routine vehicle and equipment checks, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring all kit is in good working order.
- Reporting issues that may impact road safety or network operations.
- Participating in the Winter Service rota when required and attending training to keep your skills sharp.
- Supporting sustainability efforts and upholding Balfour Beatty’s commitment to Zero Harm and core values.
Working Arrangements
- Expected to work the shift pattern (days, nights, weekend and bank holidays) to meet operational requirements.
- Shift pattern is 4 shifts on, 4 shifts off, to include weekends and bank holidays.
- Reasonable level of travel around M25 network and between depots.
- Travel to meetings, training and works sites outside normal operational area.
- Expected to participate in out of hours working to fulfil Winter Maintenance.
Who we're looking for
Qualifications (Essential)
- UK Driving Licence, minimum category C+E (LGV Class 1)
- IVR 1, 2 and 3
Experience
- Recovering heavy and light vehicles on a live motorway or All Purpose Trunk Road (APTR) network.
- Proficient in the safe working practices of recovering heavy and light vehicles using full range of equipment on the recovery vehicles, underlift, winch, crane etc
- Experience of working in a similar traffic / transport / highways / recovery role are preferred.
