Exemplary since 2023, the Royal London Hospital (RLH) Major Trauma Centre (MTC) has formally provided integrated physical and psychological care, within the Pan-London Major Trauma Psychology Network. This is supported by NHS London’s Violence Reduction Programme, so is deservedly high profile.
The post holder will have a key presence in the delivery of our comprehensive, integrated model of care for all trauma patients (children and adults) ensuring equity of integrated, high quality physical and psychological trauma care in London’s MTCs. This approach can be stepped up when a major incident occurs.
The service continues to implement and develop this model within Barts Health NHS Trust, putting patients at the heart of this transformation, and also collaborating across the London MTC system to establish system-wide governance and communication. Evidence gathering, evaluation and broadcasting are key, to enable discussion with local and national commissioners around implementation potential.
The team comprises Band 7, 8a and 8c Practitioner Psychologists, plus Assistants and Trainees, integrated within the RLH paediatric and adult workforce. Due to existing staffing, we are seeking applications from those with potential to focus on adults but the service does cover all ages.
- Responsible for providing a highly specialist, psychology input to the planning, development and delivery of the RLH MTC pathway for over eighteen-year-olds.
- Responsible for planning, developing and providing a psychology service supporting after-trauma care across the pathway, from the ward and into the community, both directly and indirectly, through staff and carer consultation.
- Teaching, training and supervision of nursing and other multi-disciplinary colleagues on psychological and/or neuropsychological theory and practice, as required.
- Implementation of the published guidance for major trauma, to maximise an embedded approach to team working, and other service delivery, based upon the evidence base and NHS guidelines.
- Providing clinical supervision to qualified, assistant and trainee clinical psychologists, as required.
