About The Role

Join Balfour Beatty Living Places and help keep Telford & Wrekin moving safely through the winter months – on a flexible zero-hour contract.

We’re looking for a dedicated Highway Maintenance Operative – Winter Driver to join our Routine & Reactive team. This is a vital role where you’ll be helping to keep roads safe and communities connected, especially during challenging weather conditions. The role offers flexibility through a zero-hour contract, ideal for those seeking seasonal work or additional hours.

What you'll be doing

  • Driving HGV gritters on defined routes during winter months (on-call shifts)
  • Supporting emergency response and highway repair teams
  • Conducting vehicle checks and completing essential paperwork
  • Ensuring safety and professionalism in all public interactions
  • Working flexibly across various public realm services

Who we're looking for

Essential

  • HGV Class 2 licence with CPC hours in date
  • Willingness to work outside normal hours and be on paid standby
  • Team player with a proactive attitude

Desirable

  • Telehandler qualification
  • Experience in highways maintenance
  • Streetworks, CSCS, Manual Handling, Traffic Management training
