This is a key operational role positioned at the forefront of sales and customer service, responsible for coordinating the full hire lifecycle while delivering a consistently high standard of service.

About The Role

Based within the depot, the Hire Desk Controller plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of equipment hire services. Relationship building is central to success in this role, as you will manage the end-to-end hire process — from initial enquiry through to delivery, collection and completion — while liaising with colleagues across the depot to ensure customer needs are met.

Working in a fast-paced, desk-based environment, you will collaborate closely with stock teams, drivers, engineers and operational colleagues to coordinate equipment availability, minimise delays and maintain clear communication with customers throughout the hire process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, delivering excellent service at every stage
  • Process orders accurately using internal systems and maintain up-to-date records
  • Liaise with stock teams to confirm equipment availability and readiness
  • Coordinate with drivers and engineers to arrange timely deliveries, collections and exchanges
  • Monitor open orders and proactively resolve delays or service issues
  • Maintain regular communication with customers to provide updates and manage expectations
  • Work collaboratively with depot and operational teams to support business performance
  • Ensure compliance with company processes, procedures and service standards
  • Support your business unit/team in delivering our ESG Strategy — Decade to Deliver

What You’ll Need

  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A flexible and adaptable approach in a fast-paced environment
  • A proactive mindset and willingness to learn and develop
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Previous experience within the hire industry or a similar sales or operational environment (desirable)

  • Training and development

We will provide everything you need to succeed in this role. You will receive structured on-the-job training supported by dedicated product and systems training teams. At Speedy, we are committed to colleague development and offer tailored learning programmes alongside strong opportunities for internal progression.
