Housing Options Officer (Resettlement & Rough Sleepers)

Are you driven to make a real difference for people at their most vulnerable? Join West Northamptonshire Council’s Housing Options Service and play a vital role in preventing homelessness and finding solutions for refugees and those sleeping rough.

This is more than just a housing role – it’s about rebuilding lives. You’ll provide urgent, practical advice and tailored solutions for individuals and families facing crisis, from refugees navigating new systems and with complex challenges, to people experiencing street homelessness. Working closely with charities, health services, and community partners, you’ll secure safe accommodation and create pathways to stability and independence.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore subject to an enhanced DBS certificate. It is also a regulated activity and will be subject to a Children and Adults Barred List check.

What will you be doing?

As a Housing Solutions Officer, you’ll provide tailored advice and practical support to customers from their first point of contact through to case closure. You’ll work closely with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds to help them overcome the root causes of their housing challenges — whether financial hardship, health and wellbeing issues, or other personal circumstances.

You’ll take responsibility for investigating and processing homelessness applications under the Housing Act 1996 (as amended by the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017), ensuring that customers receive the right level of advice, support, and intervention. Working collaboratively with customers, you’ll develop and implement personalised housing plans that promote independence and help prevent homelessness wherever possible.

About You

You’ll be a motivated and empathetic individual who can work effectively in a busy and challenging environment. You’ll have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, a sound understanding of housing legislation, and a commitment to preventing homelessness and improving lives.

You Will Bring

• Experience in housing advice, homelessness prevention, or a related field.
• Knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Strong partnership-working skills across multiple agencies.
• The ability to manage a varied caseload while maintaining a customer-focused approach.
