As an Apprentice in the Advice and Assessment Team, you will play a key role in supporting the assessment of housing needs for individuals and families. You will assist in identifying suitable housing options and contribute to early intervention and prevention work to help people find and maintain safe, affordable homes.You will also act as a key support mechanism for Housing Solutions Officers, who manage large and complex caseloads.
Your support will help ensure that customers receive timely and effective assistance.The primary purpose of the Advice and Assessment Team is to prevent homelessness and provide housing solutions to families, couples, and single people aged 22 and over.
The Team Is Responsible For
- Assessing the housing and support needs of customers
- Working closely with other council services and partner agencies
- Ensuring the best possible outcomes for those in housing need
- Where homelessness cannot be prevented, ensuring the Council’s statutory duties are carried out effectively and efficiently
What You Will Learn
- How to assess housing needs and understand housing legislation and policy.
- Effective communication with vulnerable individuals and professional partners.
- Knowledge of local housing options and support services.
- Skills in customer service, data handling, and case recording.
- The importance of early intervention and prevention in housing services.
This role is based within Housing Solutions Service. You will be expected to travel to different work locations within the Kirklees area.

Key Areas Of Responsibility
You will be a flexible, responsive, and efficient member of the team with a range of duties including:
- Support the assessment of housing needs by gathering and recording information from customers and partner agencies.
- Make telephone enquiries to support workers, landlords, and other key partners to verify information and explore housing options.
- Assist in identifying suitable accommodation, including supported housing, hostel spaces, and other move-on options.
- Help maintain up-to-date records of available housing options and support services.
- Provide basic housing advice and signposting under supervision.
- Support Housing Solutions Officers by helping manage routine enquiries, follow-ups, and administrative tasks.
- Contribute to the team’s person-centred, preventative approach to housing issues.
