Brief Description

In this role, you’ll be helping to ensure the safe, effective and efficient delivery of the £1bn portfolio of capital investment projects across Wales and Western. These projects, which are delivered 24/7/365, include some of the biggest infrastructure schemes in the UK. They support the operation, renewal, development and enhancement of the railway network to benefit passengers and freight users. You will be helping to deliver our Capital Delivery (CD) safety and sustainable development strategy, providing professional health and safety advice, support and guidance and facilitating compliance with the Network Rail Health and Safety Management System and all relevant legal, industry and company standards. You will be working closely with our supply partners to ensure that learning from investigations and assurances is shared. The postholder will be expected to work 2 to 3 days a week in Network Rail offices, supply partner site offices and work sites.

It is desirable that you have:

  • Rail industry experience.
  • Knowledge of Network Rail’s systems and processes.


IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU HOLD A CURRENT DRIVING LICENCE AS THIS IS MANDATORY FOR THE JOB ROLE.

About The Role (External)

Your Main Responsibilities will be to:

  • Provision of advice and guidance to staff regarding health, safety, assurance and environmental matters within their geographical scope.
  • To carry out risk based inspections of the function’s worksites and sites where the function’s activities take place.
  • To support Line Management in compliance with the Company Accident & Investigation process and assist where required in the collation of evidence.
  • To support Line Management in undertaking Work Activity Risk Assessments, Line Management Checks, Line Management Tours etc.
  • To support the delivery of the NCAP/Functional integrated audit plan.
  • To provide support to the Regional/Programme/Major Projects teams in the collation of workforce health, safety and environmental data.
  • To manage the assessment and development of the safety and environmental aspects of supplier contract documentation where relevant.


You Will Ideally Have (Essential)

  • Must be a member of the Institute of Occupational Health and safety (IOSH) at Certified (CertIOSH) level or above
  • National Examinations Board of Occupational Health & Safety (NEBOSH) – General Certificate pr Construction Certificate.
  • Knowledge of health and safety management system and compliance management processes
  • Knowledge and experience of railway operations and relevant standards
  • Good risk assessment skills / knowledge
  • Good interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • Logical thinker

  • Good I.T. skills
  • Internal auditor qualification
  • National Examinations Board of Occupational Health & Safety (NEBOSH) – Diploma.
