About our Commercial Services Team:
Our Commercial Services team delivers a wide variety of work across our entire Water & Maritime business line, with assistance also provided to our other business lines [Industry & Buildings, and Mobility & Infrastructure]. Whilst based in the UK, our team supports projects globally, and because of this and our continued success with our clients, we are looking to expand the team to be able to maintain our current growth and building upon our current offerings.
Working in the Commercial Services team means being willing to use your existing knowledge and think outside of the box, finding solutions for our clients with complex contractual problems, to developing detailed estimates for highly bespoke projects in remote parts of the world. Working with Engineering teams around the world creates a unique opportunity to share information and knowledge, creating a huge opportunity for personal growth as well as growing the team and business.
Due to this unique mix of domestic and international projects, team members are flexible in their approach to working and can work around the challenges of working globally. The commercial team regularly provide support to clients in different time zones, c
reating opportunity and challenges.
As a result of the diversity of work the Commercial Services team is involved in, finding the right person that fits the team is more important to us than finding a person that fits a defined grade or role. We recognise that people are integral to the success of the team and finding the right person to join the team means we would be flexible in both position and location, for the right person. We would welcome applications from those with Estimating, Quantity Surveying or Claims backgrounds, willing to be based in one of our UK Offices.
What you will do:
Preparation of accurate cost estimates through analysing Conceptual, FEED, or RIBA 1-4 drawings, in line with a standard method of measurement guidelines (Predominantly CESMM4).
Utilise RIB CostX software and Excel to prepare a range of estimates in a standard format, drawing on standard rate data or building rates from first principles.
Preparation of Bill of Quantities, Activity Schedules. Utilising previously completed estimates or from scratch.
Be familiar with BCIS, SPONS and other forms of industry pricing information.
Understand and grasp complex contractual, legal and procurement problems and be able to advise both internal and external clients of an appropriate course of action.
Review of bills of quantities/price schedules for tender evaluations.
Provide advice on procurement strategies and contract selection – NEC/FIDIC and other standard forms of contract.
Provide advice on claims and settlement strategies to both internal and external clients – NEC/FIDIC and other standard forms of contract.
Amend/ draft contract clauses for NEC/FIDIC contracts in line with Project/ Client requirements.
Post-contract administration support.
Collate rate and cost information to be used by the team in future estimates.
Liaise with Project Managers to develop working relationships and future internal and external work opportunities.
Work overseas (non-UK) for short periods, on an occasional basis.
Be based in one of our UK offices, with WFH possible.

Proficient in use of estimating software, RIB CostX.
Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Comfortable writing commercial/ technical reports and preparation of presentations.
Interested in marine and civil engineering projects.
Degree qualified in a construction related degree.
Able to demonstrate extensive post degree experience.
A member of the RICS or CICES.
Willing to travel (if required) both national and internationally for short periods.
Experienced in claims settlement.
An excellent communicator.
Willing to/ have experience of Life Cycle cost analysis, desirable.
Experienced/willing to explore integrating Carbon values into BoQs, desirable.

Our key Maritime offices are in Newcastle, Edinburgh, London, Brighton, Peterborough, and Liverpool. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will be based in the same offices as our existing members, in Peterborough or Liverpool. But for the right person we would consider your ‘home office’ to be in any of our Maritime offices.
