About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and commercially astute In-House Litigation Counsel to join our legal team. This role is ideal for a solicitor or barrister with substantial post-qualification experience (PQE) in contentious matters, looking to transition into or continue within an in-house environment. You will be responsible for managing a broad range of disputes, regulatory investigations, and risk mitigation strategies across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and advise on a wide range of contentious matters, including commercial disputes, regulatory investigations, employment claims, and reputational issues.
- Instruct and liaise with external counsel, ensuring cost-effective and strategic litigation management.
- Provide proactive legal risk assessments and develop internal policies to mitigate potential disputes.
- Draft and review pre-action correspondence, pleadings, witness statements, and settlement agreements.
- Represent the company in mediations, arbitrations, and court proceedings where appropriate.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including compliance, HR, finance, and operations to ensure alignment on legal strategy.
- Monitor legal developments and regulatory changes relevant to the business and advise accordingly.
- Support internal investigations and whistleblowing matters.
Requirements
- Qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales.
- 8–10+ years PQE, ideally with a mix of private practice and in-house experience.
- Strong background in commercial litigation, regulatory matters, or dispute resolution.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously and work under pressure.
- Commercially minded with strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working in a regulated industry (e.g., financial services, energy, healthcare) is advantageous.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience with cross-border disputes or international arbitration.
- Familiarity with data protection, ESG-related litigation, or class actions.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented approach with a strong sense of professional ethics.
