An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Centre of Excellence (CoE) for helicopter transmissions in the UK - based in Yeovil, as an Industrialisation Engineer. The dedicated helicopter transmissions Centre of Excellence specialises in the full product lifecycle of rotorcraft gearboxes, from initial concept and design, to testing, serial production and ongoing in-service support.

The CoE is a unique UK facility that along with Cascina Costa’s Transmission CoE, makes Leonardo a world leader in this core technology. In this role, you will assist in the preparation and implementation of the Capital Expenditure plan for CoE Blades and Rotor Components Yeovil, with respect to the acquisition of machine tools, process plant and equipment, and shop floor re-organisations. You will ensure cost effective solutions are implemented utilising latest technological advances available within the financial budgets set from the business.

Although a hybrid role, you will be mostly site based due to the nature of the position, with occasional working from home.

What You Will Do As An Industrialisation Engineer

  • Assist in the development of the Capital Expenditure plan for the department providing inputs relating to factory space and shop floor layouts, Plant & equipment, Manufacturing techniques, Environmental aspects and ergonomics.
  • Assist in the Capital Expenditure Budget submission annually in order to discharge the Capital Expenditure plan.
  • Create and submit for approval investment business cases in line with the current company project processes and standards that fully details the technical tasks to be completed, the associated costs, implementation plan, compliance with business requirements, detailed drawings, technical specifications, cost saving and economic evaluation.
  • Create detailed plant and equipment specifications to ensure all requirements are captured to ensure the Company receive what was expected of the supplier. Ensure all Health and Safety regulatory requirements are captured within the specification.
  • Coordinate the detailed project specification preparation using business and supplier discussions and the evaluation and selection of new plant and processes utilising Specialists knowledge where necessary.
  • Provide detailed and budget costs associated with the introduction of new and replacement plant and processes, including determination of total project requirements via consultation with the business and suppliers.
  • Manage the projects and coordinate the supply and introduction of new plant and equipment reporting on project costs, implementation and progress to plan.
  • Prepare detailed justification of new and replacement plant and processes for approval at all management levels from operations to Chief Executive, depending on project value.
  • Research and evaluate new manufacturing techniques and processes applicable to the business including new technological advancements with respect to machines and equipment, storage and material handling systems.
  • Prepare and implement projects within Health & Safety guidelines, e.g. Sec 30 HSEP P-04 Plant, Machinery and Equipment (HSEM manual) and understanding of UK & European harmonised standards.
  • Initiate and co-ordinate capital plant disposal procedures and subsequently manage plant disposal in conjunction with the Site Disposals coordinator.
  • Regularly review each project through its life cycle to ensure adherence to the Project Management Process, managing resources, contractors and risk to ensure timely safe delivery.
  • When required, manage contractors working within the department ensuring they do not arrive on site without all of the appropriate Risk and Method Statements and Permits to work in place
  • Assist Management in the departmental overhead budget submission. Monitor spend against assigned budgets.
  • Lead or support business project and improvement activities.
  • Support the department as is reasonable to maintain component deliveries.

What You’ll Bring

  • A recognised engineering qualification in a mechanical, production or aeronautical discipline, or a recognised engineering apprenticeship with 5-7 years operational experience
  • Project planning and management skills with experience in influencing teams of people from the wider organisation.
  • The ability to work & drive projects to completion under own initiative and ability to work on several different projects at the same time and prioritise tasks to ensure completion of project work in a timely manner.
  • A good knowledge of manufacturing operating area, with knowledge of the integration of various machining and process activities within a composite manufacturing facility.
  • Use of CAD software for the preparation of detail drawings and facility layouts.
  • Financial awareness regarding budgetary control.
