THIS POSITION IS FOR A FIXED TERM/SECONDMENT UNTIL 31/03/2026 DUE TO THE SERVICE REQUIREMENTS.

Are you passionate about breastfeeding? Can you work flexibly to support mothers to achieve their feeding goals? Are you enthusiastic about working with others to provide mother and baby centred care over the first few days of life?

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Ysbyty Wrexham Maelor to join the Maternity Infant Feeding team to assist in the delivery of breastfeeding, lactation and infant feeding care and support on the postnatal ward.

The role will mainly be supporting mothers on the postnatal wards but will also include assisting the Infant Feeding Team in other ways such as data collection.

The applicant must be passionate about breastfeeding and supporting mothers to achieve their feeding goals. The applicant must have experience in supporting breastfeeding and a recognised qualification in breastfeeding support with one of the UK recognised breastfeeding charities.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will demonstrate a caring and empathetic approach and an ability to relate positively to patients and colleagues. Relevant, significant experience and/or qualification, which demonstrates knowledge and skills of benefit to these posts is essential.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • NVQ 3 or equivalent level of knowledge acquired through a combination of accredited training, short courses and experience
  • Recognised and up to date entry level breastfeeding support qualification (or equivalent) such as; o Association of Breastfeeding Mothers Mother Supporter o NCT Peer Supporter o BFN Breastfeeding Helper o La Leche League Peer Supporter

Desirable criteria

  • Further Breastfeeding qualifications such as Breastfeeding Counsellor or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working with mothers and babies to support Infant Feeding
  • Experience in the care practices and management of Infant Feeding

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of working within an NHS Maternity setting
