Information Technology Governance Manager

Allen Lane are proud to be supporting the London Borough of Newham in their search to appoint an IT Governance Manager on a permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development of modern governance practices across a newly established DDaT service, helping shape the way Newham delivers digital transformation at scale. This role sits in the Delivery and Oversight tower that ensures the effective integration of delivery, risk management and strategic governance across the whole DDaT Function. If the ‘A’ in DDaT could be its own definition it would be ‘Assurance’. Delivery and Oversight is crucial to help create and drive a culture in DDaT of performance, innovation and continuous improvement and inspire new ways of working for the rest of the Council.

The role

As the IT Governance Manager, you will:

• Lead the development and implementation of enabling governance frameworks across the DDaT portfolio, ensuring oversight without stifling innovation
• Direct strategic portfolio management, including roadmap planning, resource allocation, risk management and performance tracking
• Establish governance processes that support both agile and traditional delivery methods – enabling flexibility while ensuring accountability
• Drive the adoption of technology spending controls, service standard assessments and value for money frameworks
• Champion the creation of performance dashboards, reporting templates, and automated insights to inform decision-making
• Act as a key advisor and influencer across the organisation – chairing boards, facilitating stakeholder engagement and supporting cultural change

Key skills required

As the IT Governance Manager, you will have:

• Extensive experience designing and implementing portfolio governance frameworks in complex environments
• A deep understanding of both agile and traditional project delivery methods
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills with a track record of influencing at a senior level
• Demonstrable expertise in benefits management, service assessment, and strategic reporting
• Experience driving performance through governance innovation and digital tools
• A passion for modernising public service delivery through smart oversight and people-first governance
