We are seeking a highly experienced and self-motivated IT Infrastructure Manager to join the IT department of a world-renowned football team based in Birmingham. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and improving the club's core infrastructure, ensuring the availability and security of all systems that support the day-to-day operations as well as matchday activities.


In this role, you’ll work closely with the senior IT team and other stakeholders to provide technical expertise in the design, implementation, and management of the club's IT infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and security.


Key Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Management

  • Oversee the design, deployment, and maintenance of critical IT infrastructure, including servers, networking (Cisco, Meraki, Aruba), firewalls (Fortinet), backup/recovery solutions (Veeam), and cloud services (Microsoft 365, Entra ID).
  • Manage Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, VoIP/telephony systems, and ensure seamless integration and performance.

Operations & Maintenance

  • Ensure the reliability, performance, and availability of all IT systems.
  • Monitor infrastructure and address potential bottlenecks or failures, maintaining up-to-date system documentation and infrastructure diagrams.
  • Contribute to disaster recovery and business continuity planning.

Project Management

  • Lead infrastructure-related projects, including upgrades, migrations, and technology rollouts, ensuring projects align with business objectives and are delivered on time.

Incident & Problem Management

  • Act as an escalation point for major infrastructure issues, troubleshoot complex technical problems, and continuously improve incident response processes to minimize downtime.

Security & Compliance

  • Enforce IT security policies to safeguard systems and data, addressing vulnerabilities and compliance risks.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory standards such as GDPR, ISO, and NIST.

Team Leadership

  • Manage and mentor a 2nd Line Infrastructure Engineer, providing guidance and setting objectives.
  • Ensure high performance and professional development within the team.


Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • Proven experience in a similar IT infrastructure management role.
  • Strong expertise in managing Azure AD, Microsoft 365 environments, and core Microsoft Server services (2012/2016/2019).
  • Experience with enterprise virtualisation platforms, firewalls, networking/Wi-Fi infrastructure, backup/recovery solutions, and endpoint security.
  • Ability to create, maintain, and review high-quality technical documentation.

Desirable:

  • CCNA/CCNP or equivalent qualification in networking.
  • Familiarity with Fortinet firewalls, Veeam Backup, VMware vSphere, and telephony systems.
  • Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., PRTG, Zabbix) and knowledge of GDPR and Information Security frameworks (ISO27001, NIST).
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle challenging situations professionally.
