As an Infrastructure Analyst at Global, you'll be a crucial part of our team, responsible for maintaining the performance and stability of the network services that connect our colleagues and listeners worldwide. You'll work with a team of dedicated infrastructure and information security professionals, supporting the smooth implementation of projects and contributing to a stable and secure environment for everyone.
Key Responsibilities
As an Infrastructure Analyst at Global, your responsibilities will encompass several key areas:
- Innovate with Leading Technology (30%): You will be at the forefront of network operations, working hands-on with the latest technologies from our key vendors, including Juniper, Arista, Extreme, Cisco, and Check Point. Your strong understanding of core networking concepts, such as Peering, BGP, OSPF, Multicast, and IPv6, will be essential as you help design, build and maintain the robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure that underpins all Global's services.
- Document and Improve (20%): You will maintain all network documentation to ensure it is current and accurate. You will also actively participate in vendor meetings, where you are expected to take ownership of issues and help solve problems.
Support and Protect (30%): You will play a key role in the lifecycle of our network services, from proactive monitoring to identify trends and alerting to incident resolution in support of critical services. Your responsibilities will include:- Incident Response: Triaging faults, providing detailed feedback during incidents, and mitigating attacks to protect our services.
- Change Management: Managing changes in a structured manor and partaking in peer reviews and approvals.
- Problem Management: Driving hands-on troubleshooting to find the root cause and diagnose issues for any incidents and ensuring clear communication is delivered to the business via post-incident reviews.
- Collaboration and Events (20%): Your role is built on partnerships; you will work directly alongside software developers, broadcast engineers, and other specialists daily to implement projects and ensure our network seamlessly supports Global. This collaboration extends to providing expert-level support, which will require participation in occasional events or emergency support outside of office hours. There may also be occasional travel to our various UK broadcast centres or to our live events.

What Success Looks Like
In your first few months, you'll have:
- Developed a strong understanding of the network topology, traffic flows, and key services.
- Proactively reviewed all network documentation, identifying and clarifying queries to quickly build a strong operational understanding.
- Achieved proficiency with all existing monitoring and alerting tools, along with bringing any fresh ideas.
- Demonstrated ownership of support by actively participating in vendor meetings and internal troubleshooting sessions.
- Established strong working relationships with the infrastructure team and the wider business to understand key challenges.
What You’ll Need
Operational Discipline: A proactive approach to managing your workload, from triaging incident tickets to participating in change management, always with an eye on maintaining service stability.
Problem-Solving: A methodical, detail-oriented mindset for troubleshooting, comfortable diving into packet captures, logs, and monitoring data to find the root cause of an issue.
Core Technical Skills: A strong, hands-on foundation in core networking (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF) and experience with our key vendors (Juniper, Cisco, Arista). Industry certifications like CCNA, JNCIA or CCSA are a huge plus.
Collaborative Communication: The ability to explain complex network issues clearly to technical peers and non-technical partners alike, ensuring everyone is on the same page
