Job Description

Join us as an Infrastructure Network Management Engineer

  • You’ll be the subject matter expert responsible for the NetBrain product covering all operational activities, development, and training for the tool within the bank
  • Leading all maintenance and upgrades on the product, you’ll ensure its stability and security within the bank, providing guidelines and training for colleagues to upskill their capabilities to assist you in the delivery of this platform
  • You’ll help to build the best possible solutions for monitoring our network infrastructure using the latest technologies to automate and manage the estate, and use automation to provide testing and a route to live for the product
  • This is a chance to work with colleagues across the bank to share engineering best practices, allowing you to provide thought leadership while developing solutions


What you'll do

As an Infrastructure Network Management Engineer, you’ll contribute to and manage the selection, creation, and maintenance of technologies required to meet the needs of our customers, strategic targets, and architecture outcomes. You’ll be responsible for developing products using modern engineering practices and tools. You’ll also be responsible for the day-to-day support and maintenance of network management tool, NetBrain, used through networks for troubleshooting, documentation, configuration, and operating system compliance as well as for mass configuration updates in support of projects and operational enhancements.

Collaborating with Product Owners, you’ll develop product roadmaps and manage the lifecycle of the team's products and support engineered products, responding to colleague feedback and new feature requests, resolving production issues, and helping colleagues consume our products. You’ll use DevOps practices to manage and develop code using Git based workflows and CI/CD pipelines. You’ll also use network management tools to automate the deployment and reporting of controls and mandatory security requirements to comply with best practice and bank policies.

Additionally, you’ll:

  • Take a lead role within the team to design and engineer intuitive, self-service infrastructure solutions using NetBrain
  • Learn and develop automated solutions using scripting languages such as Python and XML and automation tools such as YAML, JSON, Ansible, and Nautobot
  • Contribute to the delivery of infrastructure as code solutions
  • Provide operational support for network incidents where your knowledge of the network management products can assist with root cause identification and resolution
  • Work with key vendors in the delivery of the infrastructure services and technology for the product


The skills you'll need

To thrive in this role, you’ll have experience of the NetBrain product in a large enterprise network managing 5,000+ nodes, as well an understanding, and exposure to software development or automation scripting such as Python or Shell. You’ll have an understanding of the software development lifecycle and experience in utilising modern infrastructure as code via tooling.

We’ll expect you to bring a good understanding of Agile working practices and toolsets with the ability to create the vision for the Release Train, feature team, platform, and domain. You’ll also have experience of working with networking and security technologies deployed to an on-premises datacentre and offices with a good understanding of protocols such as TCP/IP, SNMP, DNS, and HTTP. Public cloud vendor knowledge covering GCP, AWS, and Azure would be beneficial

Furthermore, you’ll need:

  • Excellence in the use of change management processes and associated risks when implementing bulk changes across the network operating all hours
  • Experience of the development of CI or CD pipelines using modern tooling
  • Experience with software testing practices and tools, using observability tools and techniques, and using data, information, and user sentiment to continuously improve solutions
  • A good understanding of Cisco and Arista network products
  • Strong collaborative communication skills for articulating technical concepts clearly to stakeholders
