About the role


In your role as Infrastructure & Platform Technology Engineer, you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset.


This role will provide a great opportunity to lead on technical projects; working on the USS private cloud infrastructure platform technology stack operations, including (but not limited to) both public and private cloud environments, DR and Backup services, Patching Compliance and Reporting.


This is a project-focused, technical-lead role, responsible for implementing and configuring new products within the business under the guidance of the Technology Architecture Services function. The role will also support aspects of day-to-day platform operations as needed.


Please note this is a 6-month Fixed Term Contract.


What you will be doing


As a trusted part of the IT team, you will:


  • Implement, configure, and maintain USS platform technologies, ensuring standards and security are upheld
  • Provide expert-level technical support, manage critical incidents, and escalate issues to 3rd parties as required
  • Plan, execute, and hand over technical projects, coordinating with architects, project teams, and stakeholders
  • Maintain and patch infrastructure, manage backups, DR, and restore functions to ensure system stability
  • Document technical solutions, handovers, and processes to support BAU operations and wider IT teams
  • Lead technical teams, mentor colleagues, provide guidance, and uphold professionalism and quality standards
  • Engage with stakeholders, delivering customer-focused service and effective communication across the organisation

To be successful in the role, you will have:


  • Expertise in WinTel systems: AD, DHCP, DNS, Windows Server 2012–2019, and AD-FS, including Enterprise Apps
  • The ability to configure and manage Office 365 stack: Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, Skype for Business, OneDrive
  • Skills in virtualised platforms: VMware vSphere, Nutanix, and HCI technologies
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, routing, and firewalls
  • Experience with Virtualised Desktop Infrastructure (Citrix/VMware)
