Job Overview

An opportunity has arisen within the Orthopaedic Directorate for a Patient Scheduling Clerk with excellent organisational skills to work collaboratively with our nursing, medical and scheduling team. The role is pivotal in managing Orthopaedic surgery and will take responsibility for very high volume diaries.

You should be resilient, motivated, organised, work well under pressure and have exceptional communication skills. You will work closely with the consultants, nursing, scheduling and directorate management team to ensure that the Health Board access policy is adhered to and that all admin related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are met.

This is a fixed term post for 12 months to cover the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

You will be working within a well established team and must demonstrate working alone and within a team environment.

Working under pressure and to strict deadlines.

In addition you will be a named contact point for your Consultant team, liaising with other departments, patients and relatives, as well as clinical colleagues to ensure that patient admissions are appropriately planned and managed.

The Post Holder Will

Work with other scheduling staff to ensure that there is efficient and effective use of available resources at all times.

Arrange admissions, and associated pre-operative assessment clinics and theatre lists.

Play a key central role within the services and is required to work in close liaison with NHS colleagues, patients and the general public.

Require knowledge of the RTT pathways to ensure patients are treated within their pathway without delay.

Ensure that cancellations are rebooked.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

This post is fixed term for 12 months due to - meet the needs of the service.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Previous clerical experience
  • Customer service/ working with the public experience

Desirable criteria

  • Experience working in NHS admin setting

Qualifications And Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Good standard of education
  • Knowledge of patient administration and other related systems such as WPAS, CWS and Ormis, acquired through experience and qualification at NVQ Level 3 or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experience
  • Computer Literate / experience working with data systems
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office and 365.

Desirable criteria

  • ECDL qualification or equivalent
