Do you have a keen eye for detail, enjoy working independently, and want to make a difference in your local community? As an Inspections Officer at West Northamptonshire Council, you’ll play a crucial role in helping us maintain a fair, accurate, and up-to-date property base for Council Tax and Business Rates.
From new builds to empty premises, you’ll be out in the field inspecting properties, gathering essential data, and ensuring compliance with legislation. Your work will help to maximise income due to the Council.

Day to day, you’ll be visiting properties across West Northamptonshire – inspecting homes, commercial premises, and new developments to gather accurate information. This includes taking photographs, gathering information to confirm eligibility for reliefs and exemptions, verifying property changes, and issuing completion notices.
You’ll play an important role in maximising the Council Tax and Business Rates base, and gathering information to on growth to support with forecasting. You’ll also collaborate with internal teams, the Valuation Office Agency, and other key partners to keep records accurate and up to date.
As a field-based officer, you’ll manage your own workload, stay on top of changing legislation, and ensure inspection data is captured thoroughly using digital tools and mobile technology.

We’re looking for someone who’s highly organised, self-motivated, and confident working independently in the field. You’ll have experience of carrying out property inspections or similar site-based assessments and be comfortable engaging with a wide range of people, from residents to business owners.
You’ll also need a strong understanding of relevant legislation around Council Tax and Business Rates, or a willingness to learn. Accuracy is key, so attention to detail and the ability to maintain clear records is essential.
Ideally, you’ll have worked in a Revenues, Local Government, or similar environment, and be familiar with tools such as Office 365 and mobile data capture systems. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use is required.
