Job Description

Job Title: Installation Assemblies Engineer

Location: Derby (Hybrid, 2 days on-site)

Seniority: Mid Level (3-10 years of experience)

Are you ready to take on the challenge of working on complex installation assemblies within the energy sector? ALTEN UK is looking for an Installation Assemblies Engineer to support the design and delivery of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems for large-scale power generation facilities. You will be part of a core engineering team driving the design and installation of modules, ensuring they meet stringent technical, safety, and quality requirements. This is a unique opportunity to work on critical infrastructure that will contribute directly to the UK’s energy security and net-zero objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and prepare installation activities by reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, and vendor documentation.
  • Develop and progress the design of installation modules through the design review process, ensuring compliance with technical and project requirements.
  • Oversee the assembly and installation of heavy plant machinery including turbines, boilers, piping systems, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Supervise on-site activities such as piping, cabling, welding, bolting, and structural assemblies to meet international standards (ASME, ISO, etc.).
  • Ensure health, safety, and environmental standards are applied during all installation and lifting operations.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams — civil, mechanical, electrical, and control engineers — to achieve seamless system integration.
  • Support pre-commissioning and functional testing (e.g., hydro tests, electrical tests, vibration checks) and assist in handover to operations.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Strong technical background in mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering.
  • Proven experience in installation, assembly, or commissioning within the energy, power plant, or heavy engineering sector.
  • Knowledge of installation codes, quality standards, and safety practices.
  • Familiarity with project management and supervisory responsibilities in an engineering environment.
  • Ability to solve on-site technical challenges and deliver practical solutions under pressure.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with power generation equipment (turbines, generators, boilers).
  • Knowledge of welding, bolting, and assembly procedures.
  • Familiarity with energy sector regulatory standards.
  • Previous involvement in pre-commissioning or commissioning activities.
