An Interim Head of Finance / Finance Director is sought by a specialist business technical services provider serving the engineering and building sectors, based in Guildford, Surrey. This is a hands-on and commercial leadership role within a dynamic, growing organisation, offering a competitive daily rate of £400–£450 or a contract salary of £80,000–£85,000.

• The finance team is small, requiring an adaptable individual prepared to lead as well as execute core tasks.
• The finance function is central to commercial performance and strategy, and the role works closely with the Board, reporting directly to the CEO.

About the Role

• The post is based in Guildford, Surrey, with 4–5 days per week in the office.
• Responsible for managing and improving profitability, developing and reporting key KPIs, and enhancing finance processes and systems.
• Oversee all aspects of finance: statutory accounts, management accounts, cash flow, credit control, accounts payable/receivable, compliance, and tax filings.
• Engage in budgeting, risk management, financial controls, and commercial support for tenders.
• Mentor and coach the finance team, supporting professional growth.

Candidate Profile

• A qualified ACA, ACCA, or CIMA accountant, with extensive senior finance leadership experience is essential.
• Strong track record in group consolidated accounts, financial statements, and cash flow management.
• Hands-on, analytical, commercially aware, and able to work closely with senior stakeholders.
• Experience with Xero (and ideally HubSpot) finance systems, plus advanced proficiency with core Microsoft Office applications.
• Change management and process improvement skills highly desirable.

Additional Details

• The interim role is offered initially on a temporary contract, with a view to becoming permanent.
• Immediate availability preferred; flexible commitment as required.
