The Finance Change & Support Team provides support and change expertise, including management and coordination of the Finance portfolio of change, supporting Finance and the Business in achieving its strategic objectives. The Interim Head of Finance Portfolio Delivery will be responsible for driving and delivering the portfolio of change which Finance leads on or participates in, acting as a ‘front door’ for delivery of change through this dedicated team.

This role will be responsible for delivery of projects and initiatives through dedicated change experts and Product Teams, working alongside the Finance Leadership Team (FLT) who sponsor each initiative and therefore provide direction and guardrails, articulating outcomes and enabling other professionals to lead and contribute effectively through their own areas of expertise.

The role will be responsible for ensuring appropriate mechanisms to actively manage the breadth of the portfolio enabling engagement, governance, prioritisation, risk and issue management, tracking and reporting status/quality/cost/timeline KPIs. Critical to this will be management and focus on delivery of outcomes, ensuring the FLT change sponsors are supported in achieving own and Function strategic objectives which underpin the enterprise’s ambitious growth objectives.

Job Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious Finance team as Interim Head of Finance Portfolio Delivery, reporting to the Group CFO with the purpose of;

  • Leading the coordination of resource and expertise throughout the broader Finance team in order to successfully deliver the Group’s change portfolio. In representing Finance, this role has a meaningful strategic role in supporting the delivery of the Group’s overall change portfolio.
  • Supporting the Group CFO and Finance Leadership Team (FLT) by driving critical initiatives which enable benefits to be realised in key areas of focus for International and Corporate
  • Enabling Finance Strategic Objectives to be delivered, through tangible business cases and effective delivery with and on behalf of Business As Usual (BAU) Teams

The successful candidate will be results driven and able to independently balance the need for tactical solutions to improve the Finance Function capabilities whilst understanding the long-term strategic implications of any decisions, with a particular focus on outcomes and incremental benefits realisation.

Interpersonal and problem-solving skills will be critical as well as the ability to move between strategic and detail, directing teams in the most appropriate way to deliver value to stakeholders.

Building strong relationships with stakeholders within and outside Finance across multiple locations, enabling the delivery of high-quality, effective support to the Finance Function and in turn the rest of the Business. The role will provide support, guidance and direction, managing escalations with relevant sponsors and stakeholders enabling the team to perform the activities within their scope.

Representing Finance at a range of cross-functional bodies including Governance Forums, communities of practice and advisory boards.

This role will be responsible for managing, developing, coaching, mentoring, empowering and supporting any direct reports. Leading by example, developing behaviours which underpin the company values, adopting a collaborative approach when interacting with all stakeholders.

Performance Objectives

  • Develop a deep understanding of the Finance Function, ensure knowledge transfer to direct reports and teams as needed, removing and / or mitigating risk of key person dependencies.
  • Work with the FLT to understand the change roadmap enabling strategic objectives to be met, ensuring prioritisation based on business value and outcomes
  • Assess business value, develop cases to ensure work focuses on those with maximum value that are aligned with the business goals
  • Engage with the dedicated Product Teams, deploying specialist change resources to ensure the effective delivery of change ensuring appropriate for the varying demands of each product.
  • Work with the Portfolio Manager to actively manage the portfolio of change including budgets and resources
  • Working with dedicated permanent change resources and SMEs across the function, as well as the Finance (Apps) and Finance Data & Reporting (FDR) Product Managers to successfully deliver value and onboard new enabling technologies (eg Autorek, Manual Adjustments User Interface) into BAU and support.
  • Actively manage risks and issues and use existing forums to escalate and unblock
  • Input into impact assessments raised by other change initiatives (Project Review Board/Product Teams/International/Corporate) to support the justification and prioritisation of change.
  • Meet with product stakeholders to agree engagement model and RACI matrix
  • Oversee and manage the Finance Change & Support team through leadership, guidance and support
  • Responsible for recruitment, succession planning, career development, conducting appraisals, training reviews, objective setting within the team.

Essential

Skills and Experience Specification:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the insurance market and experience of working within an insurance organisation supporting Finance, ability to apply to current situations
  • Extensive background in delivery of Finance Projects, including delivery from within BAU
  • Experience of multiplatform/multi-currency business, preferably in London insurance market
  • Demonstrable experience and ability to represent leadership team on change initiatives and forums
  • Demonstrable experience of managing delivery teams (including perm, contract, , implementation partners) .
  • Skilled at structured problem solving, not intimidated by large and complex problems, but able to analyse, breaking them down and solving piece by piece while keeping sight of the overall ‘big picture’. Ultimately being able to communicate rationally to non-technical stakeholders the path to the solution.
  • Familiarity with a variety of delivery frameworks e.g., agile, waterfall experience in adopting a combinations of frameworks maintaining focus on sponsor defined outcomes
  • Technical expertise to provide effective challenge and dialogue with the Project Managers, Analysts, Technical Leads and Architects necessary in the lifecycle of data change delivery.
  • Demonstrable experience of ERP systems with particular focus on the core Finance modules - general ledgers, budgeting, reporting and allocation.
