Job Title: Internal Communications Manager, Change (16-month FTC)

Location: Preston; Lancashire. Other UK locations will be considered with travel to Preston when required. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Circa £70,000 depending on experience + executive benefits

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead, plan and deliver strategic employee communications for the HR Evolve modernisation programme, aligned with business change priorities and functional strategies
  • Act as the primary communications lead for the programme, partnering closely with stakeholders to provide expert guidance and enable them to effectively engage their teams
  • Develop and implement data-driven employee communications and listening strategies, using insights and feedback to shape messaging and engagement plans
  • Plan, manage and deliver multi-channel communications campaigns and creative content that support successful change adoption and transformation
  • Oversee communications channels such as the intranet, Connect Hub, and Connect Live, ensuring clear, timely and coordinated information sharing
  • Lead evaluation and measurement of communications impact in line with the Group Communications framework, using data to inform continuous improvement
  • Collaborate across internal functions—including Business Change, HR Centres of Expertise and Communications teams—to ensure alignment, maximise efficiency and share best practice nationally and internationally
  • Chair the Communications and Engagement Working Group to coordinate communications activities and maintain a consistent, joined-up programme narrative

Your Skills And Experiences

  • Proven ability to deliver strategic communications for complex change programmes, working across international markets and diverse teams, ideally within an HR environment
  • Skilled in managing multi-channel communications campaigns
  • Experienced in using data and insights to measure and improve communications impact
  • Effective communicator who builds trusted relationships with stakeholders and confidently offers constructive challenge to support the best outcomes
  • Previous experience supporting communications for Transformation programmes would be advantageous

The Group Communications Team

This role is part of the dynamic Group Communications team at Head Office, reporting to the Head of Employee Communications Experience. It’s an exciting 16-month fixed-term contract created to support the HR Evolve transformation programme—a major initiative aimed at modernising BAE Systems’ Human Resources. The programme focuses on improving HR systems, processes and support to enhance the employee experience, and deliver strategic value across the business.

You will be the recognised communications expert and primary point of contact for all HR Evolve communications, working closely with programme and functional stakeholders to shape key messages and drive effective delivery. This role blends strategic thinking with hands-on execution, including managing content development with external agencies and internal teams.
