Investor Strategies Programme Director

IIGCC are looking to appoint a senior sustainability professional to lead the Investor Strategies Programme. Acre is working on a retained basis to help make this appointment.

Initially established in 2001, IIGCC is an investor-led membership and not-for-profit organisation with 400+ members across 20+ countries. Members include a broad range of asset owners and managers, including many of the largest global and European institutional investors.

IIGCC works with their members to create guidance, tools, frameworks and resources that can help them, in their individual contexts, to manage climate-related financial risk and opportunities within their individual portfolios.

IIGCC's work also supports investors to make the most of opportunities presented by the transition towards a decarbonised global economy and the realities of a changing climate.

Through their leading work, the IIGCC helps investors to navigate implementation of climate considerations in their individual portfolios, advocate for a more supportive policy environment, and provide them with the tools to undertake effective stewardship and engagement with companies,and the wider market.

Role Description

This is an opportunity to be a member of the senior management team (one of four Directors) and lead the Investor Strategies programme team. Reporting in to the CEO.

As a senior figure and programme lead, the remit involves regular engagement with investors, as well as partner organisations and other stakeholders, including other financial service providers, policymakers, businesses and civil society.

Main Responsibilities

Technical

• Responsible for developing and managing the programme of work to support investors to manage climate risks and opportunities within investment strategies and make progress towards climate goals, consistent with their fiduciary duties.
• Provide strategic oversight and input into the ongoing development of major Frameworks such as the Net Zero Investment Framework (NZIF) and the Climate Resilient Investment Framework (CRIF) and associated supplementary guidance across a range of asset classes.
• Continue to develop and implement the strategy for the programme such as continuing to expand the work on net zero, building out work on physical risk and integrating consideration of emerging markets and developing countries, as well as nature across the programme.
• Manage third party consultants to undertake relevant research and analysis.
• Provide relevant technical expertise across IIGCC's three Programmes and workstreams as relevant and promote cross-programme working in the organisation.

External

• Representing IIGCC at major industry events and conferences, including on panels and roundtables.
• Lead on Secretariat support for the UK government-convened Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDE) Investor Taskforce.
• Oversee work on the Paris Aligned Asset Owners (PAAO) and Net Zero Asset Managers (NZAM) initiatives, in collaboration with partner investor networks.
• Work closely with investors to understand how they are implementing climate strategies and key barriers and challenges in order to identify priority areas for further work to support robust implementation.
• Contribute to the maintenance and expansion of Funder relationships and the expansion of the membership base.
• Engage with a range of third-party organisations to develop partnerships and take forward collaborative work to develop methodologies, approaches, and improve data availability, and drive the agenda on climate strategies.
• Some travel, including internationally, will be necessary as well as some out-of-hours calls.

Internal

• Manage and develop the Investor Strategies team, setting direction, building capability and knowledge sharing, driving performance, overseeing recruitment and talent development - while ensuring alignment with organisational priorities, fostering cross-team collaboration.
• Support the CEO on key initiatives, board papers and discussions.
• Work closely with the development team to maintain/build relationships with funders, including providing input for proposal writing and reporting to funders.
• Work with the communications team to ensure the Investor Strategies Programme, its initiatives and outputs are effectively communicated to external audiences.

Your Profile

• 15 years+ of related experience.
• Experience of working on topics relating to climate change or sustainability in an investment integration context.
• Familiarity with technical issues including scenario analysis, assessing climate risk and impact, emissions accounting, data collection and analysis.
• Solid understanding of leading industry frameworks and tools for investors integrating climate change into their investment strategies (e.g. NZIF, PCRAM).
• Track record of leading programmes and teams, team management and people development. Experience of developing or growing a programme and team over time is an advantage.
• Ability to build consensus and foster effective collaborative working arrangements across different organisations and teams.
• Strategic and commercial aptitude.
• Communication, influencing andrelationshipbuilding skills - as well as engaging public speaking and presenting skills.
• Fluency in English language; other European languages an advantage.
