We're an innovative law firm that specialises in media, technology and intellectual property. We advise clients on the financing, exploitation and protection of their creative and commercial assets.
Our intellectual property team is widely regarded as market leading. We provide a one-stop-shop for IP services (with the exception only of patent filing), advising on the full spectrum of legal issues related to IP rights, with a busy litigation and disputes practice, integrated trade mark and design portfolio practice, and significant advisory and commercial work.
We regularly act in disputes and litigation for household names, particularly in the media, entertainment and technology sectors, analysing complex legal issues, providing strategic advice, and enabling clients to enforce and defend their rights, including co-ordinating international enforcement action. We appear regularly before the UKIPO and EUIPO registries and the English Courts, and in conjunction with our Brussels office we bring cases before the General Court and CJEU.
On a more personal level, the team is extremely collaborative, friendly and supportive, with a genuine enthusiasm for developing the skills and careers of our team members
This is a junior associate (solicitor) role in our IP team primarily focusing on contentious matters for clients which include some of the world's most well-known companies. You will work on multiple, fast-moving and complex matters, often involving international disputes, and always with a commercial outcome in mind.
You will be involved in a broad range of contentious IP disputes, including patent, trade mark, designs and copyright matters. In addition to managing your own caseload, under partner supervision, you will work in teams supporting senior associates and partners on large scale, complex disputes. Often your work will involve international disputes and liaison with overseas counsel. You will, on occasion, also be involved in some commercial IP work and assist on IP focussed transactions, though this will not be a large element of your workload.
You will be able to work on matters with partners across the team, enjoying supervision from many leading IP partners and benefitting from their expertise to develop your career. You will work alongside other associates in a highly collegiate environment. As you build your experience you will be able to take responsibility for your own matters, in addition to working as part of a team with more senior associates and partners on large and complex disputes.
You can expect plenty of responsibility and client exposure, and involvement from the outset in business development and supporting the continued growth of the practice.
About you
You will be a qualified (E&W) solicitor with a strong academic record and 0-2 years PQE* in an IP practice, looking to build or develop your career in IP.
* The PQE indication is included as a guide to how much experience we would expect you to have to hold the necessary skills for this role. It does not preclude applications from individuals with more PQE.
You must have substantive contentious experience and knowledge of litigation practice and procedure before the English courts and ideally also before the UKIPO. You will be used to delivering an exceptional quality service to demanding clients (subject to partner supervision) as part of a wider team.
Depending on your level of experience, you will already have, or be studying for, the Oxford University Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law and Practice.
