We are now looking for an experienced Senior Life/400 Developer to join our UK Insurance Software team and play a key role in delivering and maintaining DXC’s core Life & Pensions software solutions (including Life/400 and Integral Life Classic) for our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, maintain and enhance Life/400 application components to meet client requirements
- Analyse functional specifications and translate into robust technical designs
- Write clean, maintainable COBOL/ILE code and ensure adherence to quality, performance and security standards
- Support delivery of system upgrades, conversions and integration projects
- Provide 3rd line application support to resolve issues and optimise performance in live environments
- Collaborate closely with business analysts, testers and other internal teams during development lifecycle
- Conduct peer reviews and contribute to technical design sessions
- Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance across the team
- Proactively recommend improvements, utilising modernisation opportunities where appropriate
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience developing and maintaining Life/400 or AS/400/iSeries-based life insurance systems (Life/400, SMART, or Integral Life Classic)
- Proven senior-level experience in COBOL (ILE), CL, SQL and related IBM i technologies
- Thorough understanding of life insurance administrative processing (traditional and unit-linked products)
- Experience delivering full SDLC projects and working in structured development environments
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables
Desirable:
- Experience with integration using APIs/Web Services
- Knowledge of other DXC insurance applications (e.g. xPression, Assure)
- Experience working with agile methodologies
