The Role

We’re excited to offer a newly created opportunity for an IT Manager to join our Alnwick site. This is a hands-on role within a small, collaborative IT function, ideal for someone looking to progress into a management role or someone already in a manager position seeking to further develop their experience in a practical, operational setting.

You’ll be responsible for supporting day-to-day IT operations, maintaining infrastructure, and working closely with both local teams and the wider Group IT function. You’ll also contribute to strategic planning and compliance efforts, helping shape the future of IT services across both the Alnwick and Reading sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support for IT service desk tickets and assist during busy periods or team absence.
  • Monitor performance of the IT network and assist with fault diagnostics and resolution.
  • Maintain and support infrastructure components including servers, networking hardware, and cloud-based services.
  • Ensure backup and disaster recovery processes are operating correctly and assist with routine testing.
  • Maintain tidy and functional comms/server rooms, escalating issues as needed.
  • Respond to audit queries and assist with maintaining compliance documentation.
  • Ensure IT components and systems are kept up-to-date and secure.
  • Work with third-party vendors and internal stakeholders to implement changes or resolve issues.
  • Maintain configuration documentation for Alnwick and Reading site IT systems.
  • Act as a local Subject Matter Expert (SME) for IT systems and support future IT planning.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to the IT Support Specialist and support their development.

Strategic & Collaborative Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the wider Quotient Group IT teams to support the development of reliable IT networking across sites.
  • Contribute to future IT planning and improvements aligned with the business operating model.
  • Support the governance of technical controls and measures that contribute to ISO27001 compliance.
  • Ensure IT systems and infrastructure changes adhere to GxP guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in cross-functional discussions with senior site leadership and Group IT to align local IT needs with broader business goals.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in 1st/2nd line IT support (3rd line experience is a bonus).
  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux environments.
  • Understanding of networking principles (e.g. TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs) and hardware (e.g. switches, firewalls).
  • Exposure to cloud services (especially AWS) is desirable.
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and basic server maintenance.
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to support colleagues across departments.
  • Previous experience in a regulated or GxP environment is helpful but not essential.
  • Interest in developing leadership skills and supporting a small team.

Why Join Us?

This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a management role while continuing to work hands-on with technology. You’ll be part of a supportive team, with opportunities to grow your skills, contribute to strategic IT planning, and help shape the future of IT services at two dynamic scientific sites.
