Department Description
The Information Technology Department is responsible for the implementation, provision and support of all Information and Technology services within the firm. The department is a business services function that supports and contributes to the objectives of the legal practice. Members of this department are expected to fit into the firm's culture and be committed to providing a high quality of service to our customers.
Role Overview
The role will report to the Senior Manager, Modern Workplace, responsible for all aspects of support of the firm’s Modern Workplace end user computing environment leveraging M365/O365 and other service to ensure that the service is maintained to high standards required to provide resilient services to the firm and its clients, liaising with other teams and departments as necessary.
The role will require strong understanding of the O365 SaaS and application lifecycle management, including elements such as accounts and group management, licenses and policies. Additionally, a broad understanding of applications in general and different application types will be required to assist with 2nd and 3rd line issue resolution. At times the role will need to support projects related to O365 where it has dependencies and integrations.
The role will work with services hosted on premise, in the cloud, or in third party locations operating under contracts with Hogan Lovells.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
The Engineer is expected to have an excellent working knowledge of all aspects of the Technology Infrastructure, supported by the wider team.
The Engineer is expected to have a broad experience of working in an enterprise environment covering Endpoint Management (Intune) and associated Infrastructure elements such as Active Directory(AD), Entra ID and Group Policies (GPO/GPP).
In addition, to effectively support the services running on the firm's technology infrastructure, a good general knowledge of all applications and services provided to the firm is required.
This role requires a good understanding and experience of supplier management. Working with 3rd party vendors to maintain the services we deliver in Modern Workplace team.
The specific duties for this role include, but are not limited to managing and implementing are;
- A strong working knowledge of M365 and O365 Productivity Suite including the various Microsoft Admin consoles used in the effective provision, licensing and administration of these SaaS solutions.
- Ensuring governance, compliance and security components within M365 are meeting Information Security mandates and best practices across the end-user device estate.
- 3rd line support level of understanding of the dependencies for MS Office such as SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange, and Add-ins.
- A strong working knowledge of Windows operating system software components, e.g., .Net Framework, Visual Studio Office Runtime and C++ redistributable.
- Familiarity with troubleshooting tools used in 3rd line support, e.g., Office SARA Tool, Fiddler, Wireshark, process Explorer and ProcDump.
- Fundamental experience of Core Networking components and their interdependencies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN, WAN, F5, Firewalls, Routers, Switches).
- Assist in supporting, maintaining, and troubleshooting of O365 services and providing recommendation for implementation of changes and products.
- Global support of end user issues and troubleshooting where necessary with Microsoft and other vendors in sustaining the service.
- Support projects as needed to meet goals of Modern Workplace and the IT department.
- Proactively identify and resolve infrastructure issues before they impact the user/customer.
- Create and maintain standards, procedures and policies to enhance new and existing services whilst ensuring Change Control and Service Management principles are followed.
- Oversee and manage system changes, deployment of applications, monitoring of service health and troubleshooting problems whilst ensuring a good service is maintained.
- To create detailed documentation of all systems and procedures that are relevant to the service including KBA’s and QRG’s to enhance the support of the services in the Modern Workplace.
- To undertake assigned projects or tasks, carrying out relevant research and defining and/or documenting the scope of the project.
- Maintaining understanding of technology, trends in industry, and keeping up with manufacturer roadmaps in alignment to firm and service needs.
Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location or services.

Qualifications And Training
- Must have three (3+) years of experience applicable to the role described above in an enterprise environment.
- M365 Fundamentals (MS-900) & Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900).
- ITIL v4 Foundation certification.
- Customer-oriented experience in a global enterprise environment.
