Summary:
We're seeking a skilled and proactive IT Network Infrastructure Engineer to join our core Infrastructure Team.
This position is vital for maintaining a high standard of service delivery and ensuring continuous business operations across our diverse IT infrastructure.
You'll be responsible for the health and performance of critical systems, including servers, wired and wireless networks, data storage, backup systems, security protocols, voice platforms, and cloud services.
A key aspect of this role involves providing advanced 2nd and 3rd line technical support to our IT Helpdesk, tackling complex issues and implementing preventative measures.
You'll also be heavily involved in infrastructure modernisation projects, including the installation and deployment of new hardware such as network switches, routers, and network cabinets, as well as the implementation of new structured cabling solutions (both Ethernet and fibre optic). This ensures our infrastructure remains cutting-edge and supports our organisational growth.
Reporting to the Senior Infrastructure Analyst, you'll be an integral part of IT Services, collaborating extensively with other IT teams, particularly the Cyber Security team to maintain network integrity, and the IT Helpdesk to provide effective end-user support.
Your collaborative approach will be essential in solving problems and delivering holistic IT solutions.
Main responsibilities:
- Maintain business continuity and service levels via effective IT infrastructure delivery: servers, network, storage, backup, security, voice, and cloud services.
- Monitor and maintain network security. Including but not limited to firmware upgrades, physical security, digital security, monitoring.
- Provide 2nd and 3rd line support for the IT Helpdesk on reported system and infrastructure issues, delivering a resolution within the target SLA and keeping business users up-to-date on progress.
- Monitor and maintain Local Area Network and Wide Area Network services within the South East Water estate. Including installation, maintenance, replacement, and decommissioning of physical equipment located at our data centres and also at our remote treatment and process sites.
- Working with 24v, and 48v DC power systems used by low voltage equipment including routers, switches and sensors.
- Analyse service trends to identify potential improvements to internal processes, policies, or technologies and build business cases for change.
- Coordinating third-party suppliers, consultants and other members of the IT team to deliver new and enhanced services with minimal impact on system availability.
- Liaise with Procurement and Legal teams to support with preparing procurement documentation such as requirements specifications for invitation to tender and contracts for new systems and services.
- Analyse the impact of change and coordinate change control activity.
- Liaise with nominated process owners and system user groups within the business to devise workarounds to service issues and to implement change.
- Continually scan the IT horizon to identify technology innovations which will deliver benefits to the overall business.
- The post holder is required to join an out-of-hours stand-by rota and provide on-call support for incidents and faults affecting users, this includes some weekends and bank holidays.
- Maintain correct and up-to-date documentation for all systems within the scope of responsibility.
You'll need:
Skills / Qualifications / Experience
- Certification or formal training in a related infrastructure field such as CCNA, Comp TIA or equivalent.
- Full driving license and a willingness to travel across the South East Water regions as required.
- Physical installation of networking equipment, and enclosures. This will include mounting new equipment to walls including the use of power tools.
- Proven experience in networking responsibilities, switching, routing, cabling (installation and maintenance of Cat5e, Cat6a, single mode and multimode fiber).
- Extensive knowledge in routing, switching and security protocols.
- Experience of producing and updating documentation, such as network diagrams, technical designs, standard operating procedures, disaster recovery procedures.
- Be familiar, and able to work with a mix of 230v AC, 24v DC, and 48v DC power systems.
- Good operational knowledge in all aspects of IT infrastructure including server. administration, operating systems, Google suite, data storage and backup, security and networking, with extensive knowledge in at least two of these.
- Demonstrable experience of supporting end users, particularly the ability to communicate clearly in non-technical language.
- Demonstrable knowledge in all aspects of IT infrastructure.

- Knowledge or experience of procurement processes, particularly in the IT industry.
- Experience of working with the ITIL framework.
- Experience of the security certifications such as ISO 27001 or cyber essentials.
- Experience of working in the water industry or utilities industries.
- Experience of working with Google Suite.
- General understanding of database technologies.
- Industry certifications especially in cloud service providers such as GCP.
- Experience of implementing, managing, and administering cloud infrastructure (GCP, Azure, or AWS).
- Experience of implementing or administering Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace environments.

Compensation package:
£40,000 - £50,000 p.a. (dependent on experience) + company vehicle
