As an Experienced Linux Engineer at The University of Nottingham, you will be responsible for maintaining, optimising, and enhancing our Linux-based infrastructure. You will collaborate with a team of dedicated professionals to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of our systems. This position will be offered on full time, permanent basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Linux System Administration: Manage and maintain Linux servers, ensuring high availability and performance
- System Optimisation: Continuously monitor and optimize system performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks
- Security: Implement and maintain robust security measures, including access control, firewall configurations, and vulnerability assessments
- Automation: Develop and maintain automation scripts for system provisioning and configuration management
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex system issues promptly to minimize downtime
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to support application development and deployment
Technical Skills Required:
- In-depth knowledge of Linux server administration (Red Hat, CentOS, or similar distributions)
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl for automation
- Some knowledge of containerisation technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes
- Strong understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, such as AWS or Azure, is a plus

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Proven experience as a Linux Engineer
- Relevant certifications (e.g., RHCE) desirable
