The post is for a period of 6 months, commencing September 2025, part-time at 60% (3 days per week or 60% equivalent). This would be an ideal opportunity to acquire experience for those interested in a career in infection prior to specialization. This post does not have Royal College of Postgraduate approval for training; however, the trainee will be trained alongside deanery appointed registrars, foundation year doctors and medical students. There are excellent opportunities for gaining experience in clinical infection management, auditing, quality improvement projects, and academic publications.

The main duties of the job will be to provide clinical microbiology/infection services to North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust, and to support AMS practice and auditing at the NMUH site.

Main Duties

  • Support the AMS Lead with AMS audits and ward rounds/oversight of antibiotic use on the wards.
  • Support the liaison Infection and Microbiology Service: - Reviewing patients identified with sepsis/ reviewing patients with complex infections in the hospital, supporting the Infection registrar in their daily jobs, particularly in the absence of the Microbiology SHO.

The microbiology department works closely with all infection specialties and others to deliver an infection service that is in line with the needs of our patients.

We have close collaborations with Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, and Virology colleagues across North Central London.

We are an established postgraduate clinical training site in North London for trainees specializing in Core Infection Training / Specialist Infection Training / HIV. Two deanery appointed Core Infection registrars rotate on a six-monthly basis through our service and participate in the Microbiology on-call. We also have a dedicated microbiology F2 working with us on a four-month rotational basis.
