Junior Devops Engineer

Play a key role in shaping the internal DevOps tooling that supports world-class aerospace and defence innovation.

Join a fast-moving team tasked with building and maintaining Python-based systems that streamline software development and engineering workflows. You’ll work on automation, UI, and backend services in a collaborative environment—building smart, practical solutions that power real-world engineering projects.

This hybrid role offers the chance to apply your software skills across a variety of domains, using modern DevOps practices to improve tools and processes from the ground up. Ideal for junior engineers looking to level up in a high-impact, real-world setting.

Location: Derby

On-Site Requirement: Hybrid, 2 days per week

Experience Level: Junior (2–4 years)

Clearance: No security clearance required

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain internal software tools using Python and the Django framewor
• Support internal teams by building scripts and apps that improve automation, process visibility, and performance
• Use Git for change control and collaborate with stakeholders across engineering function
• Contribute to the design, architecture, and requirements of new DevOps tooling projects
• Write software documentation, test scripts, and improve UI/front-end features where needed
• Engage in continuous improvement of existing tools and workflows, including batch/bash/VBA scripting
  
  

Required Skills:

• Experience developing with Python and Django
• Working knowledge of Git and common version control workflow
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Fast learner with a passion for solving real-world tooling problems
• Experience writing or maintaining automation scripts (e.g. Bash, Batch, VBA)
• Exposure to front-end or UI work is a plus

Required Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar
• No clearance required, but must be eligible to work in the UK

Desirable Skills:

• Exposure to requirements management, system design, or project management
• Experience writing software tests or working in a test-driven development environment
• Previous work across a variety of technical domains (e.g. scripting, DevOps, automation tools)
