This post is designed as a 1-year research fellowship for Neurosurgical trainees who are at the beginning of their training or have just completed their foundation training and who wish to develop their research skills and gain experience in movement disorders/functional neurosurgery in a major centre of excellence. The post is an ideal opportunity for a trainee to gain experience in functional neurosurgery and movement disorders research and to work towards a PhD.
- Review of patients undergoing the Functional Neurosurgical pathway as part of multidisciplinary clinics and weekly MDT meetings.
- Attend movement disorder outpatient clinics (minimum 2 per week), and also joint clinics with neurosurgeons and neurologists.
- Carrying out Levodopa Challenges as part of the patient’s pathway.
- Post-operative care of patients (programming and screening) with a special focus on advanced programming technologies.
- Collecting clinical audit data on patients with movement disorders implanted with DBS.
- The appointee will dedicate time on a weekly basis towards research with a special focus on advanced programming technologies.
- We expect the appointee to publish at least two papers within the year in peer-reviewed journals and present at National and/or International conferences.
- Participate in Clinical Governance, Risk Management and Clinical Audits within the department.
- Take responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee/junior doctors within the department.
- Other duties as required, including cover for leave and sickness absence.
