We are seeking a motivated and experienced Band 6 Nurse to join our Acute Medicine and Frailty services at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), going live in November 2025.

We’re excited to be launching a new and ambitious clinical model built on national best practice and the principles of Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT), the model is designed to deliver the right care, in the right place, at the right time - and to offer nursing staff a dynamic and supportive working environment with a clear focus on quality, development and teamworking.

In the new model, Wards 22 & 23 will consist of the following four units: Acute Assessment Unit (AAU), Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Frailty Same Day Emergency Unit, Acute Frailty Unit (AFU).

This role offers an exciting opportunity to take on greater responsibility in a fast-paced, high acuity environment, where you will play a crucial role in managing acutely unwell patients and ensuring smooth patient flow.

The post holder will oversee the care of patients with a wide range of acute medical conditions, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide timely and effective care.

This role provides excellent opportunities for professional growth, with learning opportunities to further develop your clinical and leadership skills. You'll have the chance to empower your team while being part of a dynamic and supportive environment that priorities patient safety and the quality of care for patients.

Accountable to Head of Nursing

To be responsible for the planning, provision and delivery of an effective, 24-hour nursing service for the ward / department area.

To manage, support and develop the ward / department team and ensure that nursing practice and procedures conform to identified NMC and Trust policies and standards.

To be a role model for all staff and ensure that the ward environment is a safe and effective learning area for staff and student nurses.

To be an advanced clinical practitioner and support and direct the educational and training needs of the nursing team to enable the provision of a patient focused, evidence / research based nursing service.

To be responsible for making the patient the focus of care within the ward environment.
